A leading UK construction and civil engineering company.

The Challenge:
Mid-seniority staff, who are involved in the delivery of projects at the construction and civil engineering company, face a variety of challenges when trying to complete developments on time and to budget. For example, engineers, quantity surveyors and site managers regularly deal with challenges where good leadership and negotiation skills, on top of their technical skills, can significantly improve outcomes for both the client and their organisation. The Influence Business was approached to help improve and develop negotiation skills and leadership and management skills across the mid-seniority staff at the company.

The Delivery:
To address the challenges faced by mid-seniority staff, two-day programmes were developed for each topic. The Negotiation Skills programme focused on discussing and practicing the key elements of negotiations, before a live negotiation took place between two parties, drawing on a bespoke case study developed specifically for the company.

The highly practical Leadership and Management programme focused on three key elements: a variety of different leadership styles that can be deployed seamlessly depending on the situation; each person’s own default style and finally, practical communication. Actor facilitators featured heavily in this programme, as well as video review, where participants put into practice the skills and behaviours they learned on the programme.
