COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS
If a leader can insure that everyone understands and believes in their purpose, they’re more likely to achieve successful outcomes. Good communication is also essential when delivering uncomfortable news. Deliver your message up front and then elaborate. Also, consider the acronym CAP:
C – Express CONCERN for those involved
A – Say what ACTION you’re going to take
P – Put the situation in PERSPECTIVE
If you stick to this, you won’t make the mistake of trying to sugar coat bad news. Invariably the subject will be expecting it (if they’re not, you’ve not been communicating) so they won’t be listening to your preamble.
